Description
Gold embroidery over black velvet in design 931, a bag built to hold tallis and tefillin together rather than one at a time. The pattern is worked with even weight across the panel, and the velvet has the body to keep the front flat instead of letting the embroidery pull it out of shape.
Three sizes go up to 16 by 16. The bar mitzvah bag at 10.5 by 10 is scaled for a boy; the 14 by 14 large talis bag is the size for a man with a standard wool tallis; and the 16 by 16 extra large is for a bigger tallis or for someone who prefers to slide everything in without arranging it.
Bags in this range are frequently bought at bar mitzvah and used for the next thirty years, so the size decision is really about who the bag belongs to at the end of that time, not who opens it on the day.
