Tallis & Tefillin Bag, Custom Embroidered Design #1009

Design #1009 opens Malchut's custom range, and the embroidery is the reason it sits there. The custom numbers are worked to a different standard from the catalogue designs, with more thread on the panel and more attention to how the pattern is placed on the face of the bag. It is a piece that reads as chosen rather than as picked off a rack.

Three sizes are made: the bar mitzvah bag at 10.5 x 10, the large talis bag at 14 x 14, and the extra large at 16 x 16. The smallest is a bochur's bag. The 14 x 14 is the working adult size, and it is what a man buys when tallis and tefillin travel together every morning. The 16 x 16 is the one to order for a full-size wool tallis with a bit of room left over.

Design #1009 is also made as a gartel bag, which is the obvious companion — the gartel goes in the same bag or beside it every day, and having both in one design is the sort of detail that gets remarked on.
