Description
The Black Terylene Kippah is a plain black yarmulke for men and boys, offered as a 4-panel or 6-panel cut in 17 sizes at $11.99. Terylene is a smooth, tightly woven fabric with a dull, even finish; up close it shows a very fine texture, and it has none of the pile or sheen of velvet. The 4-panel version has a cross-shaped seam at the top; the 6-panel version has seams that meet in a star and give a slightly rounder dome. The edge is a clean, narrow black finish with no contrasting rim. Sold by Judaica Square, shipping from Lakewood, NJ.

How this compares
| Kippah | Material | Season / weight | Formality | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Black Terylene (4 or 6 panel) (this one) | Black terylene | Year-round | Everyday to formal | A plain black kippah that is not velvet |

| Yechi 4 Panel Kippah – Black Terylene Yarmulke | Black terylene, 4 panels, embroidered | Year-round | Everyday to formal | The same terylene with the Yechi phrase stitched around the edge |
Best for
- A plain black kippah for daily wear, yeshiva or work
- Men who prefer a matte fabric to velvet pile
- Choosing the shape: flatter 4-panel or rounder 6-panel
- Hard-to-fit heads, with domes up to size 9 and flats up to 24 cm
Not the right choice if
- You want the soft pile of velvet
- You want any colour, rim or pattern
- You need a flat size of 23 cm; it jumps from 22 to 24
- You need the lining of a 6-panel to be six panels too; some are 4-panel inside
Why customers choose it
Terylene is the workhorse black kippah: matte, smooth and even, so it looks the same on a Tuesday as on Shabbos. Offering both 4-panel and 6-panel lets you choose the silhouette, and the size range, from a toddler's size 1 to a size 9 dome and flats from 16 to 24 cm, covers nearly every head. iKippah notes that some of its 6-panel kippot are made with 4 panels on the inside lining, which does not affect the outside look.

Sizing is guidance, not a promise — heads vary. When you are between two sizes, the larger one sits better.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the 4-panel and 6-panel versions?
The 4-panel has four seams meeting in a cross and a slightly flatter dome. The 6-panel has six wedge-shaped panels meeting in a star, which gives a rounder, fuller shape.
Does the 6-panel kippah have six panels inside as well?
Not always. iKippah notes that some of its 6-panel kippot are lined with a 4-panel inner layer; the outside still shows six panels.
How does terylene compare with velvet?
Terylene is smooth and matte with no pile, so it does not show brush marks or crush. Velvet is softer and dressier with a slight shine.
What sizes are available?
Domes 1 through 9 and flat cuts of 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24 cm.
Is a black terylene kippah suitable for yeshiva?
In many settings a plain black kippah is standard; check whether your yeshiva specifically requires velvet.
