A Novel

“Estee, what are you doing?!”

“What do you mean? I’m going to go back to Lakewood with my mother so I can see Dr. Farber.” The IV bag was just about finished, and she felt much stronger.

Yonah’s lip curled; she’d never seen him look so cold before. “Are you? You are going back to Lakewood. Did you forget something? Maybe a husband? Since when do we make decisions alone?”

During their engagement, Yonah and Estee Rosen were the poster chassan and kallah. They’d enjoyed each other’s company so much, and had marveled at how in sync they were with one another. Why is it, then, that when sheva brachos are over and married life begins in earnest, misunderstandings and hurt feelings seem to abound faster than the flash of Estee’s expensive camera?

Dovid and Golda Rosen have been helping the world for the past forty-plus years. Now that they’ve married off their youngest, Golda feels that it’s time to move on and reel in some peace, quiet, and alone time. Why is it, then, that when she finally gets what she wants, something just doesn’t feel right?
