Polished Ram's Horn Shofar, 16 to 17 Inches (#A5)
Pickup at both Lakewood stores
Description
The largest of the polished horns at sixteen to seventeen inches. Length and finish together make this the one chosen when the shofar is going to be seen as much as heard — standing at the amud on Rosh Hashanah, in front of a full shul, with a smooth surface catching the light the whole way along the curve.
A horn this long moves a great deal of air and gives a deep, carrying blast, but it asks for a baal tokeah who can fill it. It is not the horn to learn on. For a man who has been blowing for years and wants to move up from a thirteen or fourteen-inch, the jump in body is significant and noticeable in the room the first time he uses it.
Ram's horn from Israel with the hechsher of the Rabbanut. Store it in the medium bag at 16 by 10.5 inches; the leather version in design 1085 is the firmer choice if the shofar travels between home and shul through Elul.
