The Rebbe of Kretchnif Yisroel Besser (Hardcover, ArtScroll)

There are tzaddikim whose greatness is measured by the crowds they attract.
And there are tzaddikim whose greatness is revealed in the souls they transform.
R’ Hershele of Kretchnif belonged to the second kind.

A survivor of Auschwitz, heir to the sacred Nadvorna–Kretchnif dynasty, and a beacon of warmth, humility, and boundless love for every Jew, the Kretchnifer Rebbe rebuilt a shattered world one heart at a time. To those who entered his modest room, he offered more than advice or blessing — he offered understanding. To those who sat at his Shabbos table, he revealed a world in which holiness could be found everywhere: in a niggun, in a smile, in a piece of kugel, and in the simplest acts of everyday life.

In this masterfully told biography, bestselling author Yisroel Besser opens a window into a world that has all but disappeared. Through vivid stories, firsthand accounts, and unforgettable encounters, readers will journey from prewar Europe through the fires that claimed millions of Jewish lives and into the rebuilding of Torah life in Eretz Yisrael, following a Rebbe who carried the light of Shabbos wherever he went.

This is the story of a man who saw the Divine in every corner of creation, who never gave up on a fellow Jew, and whose influence continues to illuminate lives decades after his passing.

Warm, inspiring, and deeply moving, The Rebbe of Kretchnif is more than the biography of a great tzaddik. It is an invitation to experience a different way of seeing the world — a world where faith triumphs over darkness, where every Jew is cherished, and where the light of Shabbos never fades.
