Description
Wool woven white on white, the pattern carried in the same shade as the ground, so the beged has texture without color. Round neck, one hole per corner, keshiras Ashkenaz. It is the fabric men choose when they want the beged itself to be a little better than plain — not decorated, just finer.
Adult sizes 18 to 28. Thin avodas yad and thick avodas yad are both hand-tied; bli sends the beged with the corners finished and empty. The round neck is the flatter opening and the one to take if you are in a shirt and tie, since it sits below the collar and does not show.
Most men who own one of these own plain wool or cotton as well and keep the white-on-white for Shabbos, Yom Tov and the Yomim Noraim. It is also bought for a chosson, and it is one of the more common bar mitzvah gifts once a bochur is in adult sizes. Wool through the winter, and it hangs the way a good beged should.
