Description
Velvet under glass is the whole idea of design #685. The nap absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so the field reads deep and matte, and the clear top adds a hard sheen directly over that softness. The two together are what give the board its weight — it does not look like a printed surface, because it is not one.
The size is 16 by 11 inches, a full serving board rather than a decorative tray. Two large challos fit across it with room for the knife, and the flat glass plane lets the cover drape without tenting. Velvet on any exposed Shabbos piece eventually mats down where it is handled; here it never gets touched, and the board cleans with a damp cloth like any other glass surface.
