Lucite Wash Cup with Matte Silver Handles, Design #7074

Brushed rather than polished — the #7074 cup with matte silver handles on a clear lucite body. The difference from the shiny silver finishes is obvious in the hand: matte diffuses light instead of reflecting it, so the handles look soft and grey rather than bright, and they stay looking that way instead of collecting the smudges a polished surface shows. It measures 4 7/8 inches high by 5 inches across the handles.

This is the finish for a bathroom with brushed nickel or stainless fittings, which describes most bathrooms fitted in the last decade. It also suits a bedside table, where a bright metal cup catches the hall light at night and a brushed one does not.

The cup does the ordinary job well. Just under five inches of height holds enough water for netilas yadayim in one fill, the two handles let it be picked up wet without slipping, and the acrylic body shows at a glance whether it has been filled.
