Ram's Horn Shofar with Badatz Hechsher, 18 to 19 Inches (#AA6)

The longest of the Badatz horns: eighteen to nineteen inches under the hechsher of the Eidah HaChareidis. At this size the shofar becomes a two-handed object, and the sound follows from the size — a deep blast that reaches the back of a large beis medrash without the baal tokeah having to force anything.

It takes air. A man who blows well on a fourteen-inch horn will not automatically blow well on this one, and it is worth being honest about that before buying rather than on Rosh Hashanah morning. What it returns is a volume and depth a shorter horn cannot produce, which is why it goes to shuls with big rooms and long, drawn-out tekios.

Made in Israel from a ram's horn. Length matters for storage as much as for sound: keep it away from a radiator or a warm windowsill through the year, since heat is what dries horn and opens cracks along the grain, and a horn of this size is not a small purchase to replace.
