Description
The same fifteen to sixteen inch length as the standard B4, with a different certification behind it: this one is under the Badatz of the Eidah HaChareidis rather than the Rabbanut. For a certain buyer that is the whole decision, and it is the reason to look at this number instead of the less expensive one.
A shofar carries kashrus questions of its own — where the horn came from, how it was cleaned and worked, whether anything was added to it along the way. A Badatz hechsher answers those questions at the standard a particular kind of buyer holds by, and it is not something that can be added afterwards. Either the horn came certified or it did not.
It is made in Israel from a ram's horn, at a length that suits most baalei tokeah without demanding unusual breath to fill. If the shofar is being bought for a shul rather than for a house, the hechsher question tends to come up early in the conversation, and this is the straightforward answer to it.
