Frequently asked questions

How late can I order and still have it before Rosh Hashanah?
Orders ship within 1–3 business days and typically arrive 3–7 business days after that, so allow about two weeks to be comfortable. Closer to Yom Tov, use free in-store pickup at either Lakewood location or $7 local delivery — both are far faster than shipping in the pre-chag rush.

What do I actually need for Rosh Hashanah?
The short list: a machzor for each person in your nusach, a shofar if you do not already have one, and simanim for the seder on the first night — typically a honey dish, apples, and dishes for the other simanim. Everything else is a gift or an upgrade.

Which machzor should I buy?
Match your shul's nusach first — Ashkenaz, Sefard, Ari or Edot HaMizrach — because that determines the text itself and cannot be worked around later. Then choose the format: full size for a fixed seat, pocket for travel, interlinear if you want the English under each word, and large print, which is the most commonly overlooked option.

Do I need separate machzorim for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur?
Yes, they are separate volumes. Most people buy them as a Yamim Noraim pair, which is usually better value than buying the two singly and means both match on the shelf.

How do I choose a shofar?
Decide between a Yemenite shofar (long, curved kudu horn, deeper sound) and a classic Ashkenaz ram's horn (shorter, more traditional in most shuls here). Beyond that it is length, finish and the sound itself — which is why most people prefer to choose one in person. Both Lakewood stores stock them through Elul.

What is a good Rosh Hashanah gift for a host?
A honey dish is the standard choice and always gets used. Beyond that: a Yom Tov sefer, a bencher set, or a serving piece for the simanim. If you want it embroidered or embossed, allow 10 to 14 days on top.

Can I buy Rosh Hashanah items in store?
Yes. Both locations — 1105 East County Line Road and 1328 River Avenue — carry Yamim Noraim stock seasonally, and a shofar in particular is worth hearing before you buy.
