Lame leather puts a metallic face on the kippah — a bright reflective finish in either gold or silver rather than the flat matte of ordinary leather. It measures roughly six inches across, which is the full-coverage diameter rather than the small crown-only cut, and the metallic surface photographs well under hall lighting, which is where these end up.

The two colours are gold and silver, and the choice usually follows whatever metal is already running through the simcha: the centrepieces, the bencher covers, the invitations. Customized orders carry a minimum of sixty pieces and take two to three weeks to process, so this is a decision to make early in the planning rather than in the final fortnight. Printing inside with names and a date is the usual request.

Screen colours are never exact on a metallic finish, and gold in particular can read warmer or cooler in person than it does on a monitor. If the shade has to match something precisely, confirm it before the run is placed.
