Description
Design #186 is built as a set rather than a single bag. The large bag measures 10 x 17 and is made to hold a tallis, and it arrives with two separate tefillin bags worked in the same embroidery — one for Rashi and one for Rabbeinu Tam. The three pieces are made to be seen together, so the smaller bags are not an afterthought in a plainer finish.
The reason for two tefillin bags is practical. A bochur who lays both pairs needs them kept apart and identifiable without opening anything, and once they have their own bags there is nothing to mix up in the dark of an early minyan. The 10 x 17 proportion is the long cut used for bar mitzvah sets, so the tallis lies in it rather than being folded down small.
Design #186 is also made up as a prayer booklet cover, which is the natural companion piece — a bochur receiving the set can have the bencher or krias shema booklet in the same embroidery, and it makes the whole gift look deliberate.
