Malchut embroiders #5020 to order, and the design is carried entirely in thread — no fur, no velvet, no contrasting hide. It is a bag for someone who wants the workmanship without the weight or the upkeep that a fur panel brings with it.
Three sizes are made. The bar mitzvah bag is 10.5 by 10 inches, scaled for a boy and a pair of tefillin. The large talis bag is 14 by 14 and is the adult standard, taking a folded tallis with the tefillin beside it. The extra large is 16 by 16, and it is the size worth ordering if the tallis is full wool, if the tefillin are a bigger set, or if you carry a gartel and tallis katan in the same bag.
An embroidered bag like this travels better than most. It goes into a suitcase for Yom Tov without needing care, and it comes out looking the same as it went in, which is the practical reason a lot of men prefer this construction.
