Design #1070 is one of the numbers Malchut sells most often as a gift, and it is easy to see why. The embroidery is generous without being ornate, the proportions are even, and the bag looks like an occasion piece without shouting. It comes from the heavier side of the custom range, so it has real body to it; set it down on a shtender and it stands rather than folding over on itself.
Order it as a bar mitzvah bag at 10.5" x 10", a large talis bag at 14" x 14", or an extra large at 16" x 16". For a bar mitzvah bochur the smaller cut is the natural fit alongside a new pair of tefillin. For a chosson, take the 14" x 14" if he has a standard tallis and the 16" x 16" if he was given a large one, which is common enough that it is worth asking before you buy.
Between a bar mitzvah and a chasunah, this design covers both without needing to be explained. It is a safe choice when you are buying for somebody whose taste you do not know well.
