Ptil Tekhelet Tzitzis Strings, Techeiles in Rambam or Raavad, Thick or Thin

These are Ptil Tekhelet tzitzis strings, the techeiles (also spelled tekhelet or techelet) dyed from the murex snail and produced in Israel. Each set has the white and blue wool strings together for all four corners of one garment, so nothing has to be matched from two sources. The supplier lists them as hand dyed and spun, and like all tzitzis strings they are spun lishmah for the mitzvah.

Choosing a tying method

Ptil Tekhelet cuts its sets by shitah, and the blue count differs between them:

• Rambam: one of the eight half strings on each corner is techeiles.
• Raavad: two of the eight half strings on each corner are techeiles.

Ask your rav which method to follow before ordering, because the packets are not interchangeable. The Rashi and Tosafot method, with four blue half strings, is not offered on this listing.

Thin or thick

There is no halachic difference between thin and thick strands. Thick strings are more durable and are easier for a first time tyer, especially with the Rambam method, where a single thin blue string takes most of the wrapping. Thin strings lie flatter and look closer to standard white tzitzis.
