Machine spun rather than hand spun, thin weight, white, and cut to 50 cm. Twelve short strings and four longer ones fill out the packet, which covers all four corners of a garment. The spinning is done under the supervision of Rabbi Avraham Wosner.

This is the everyday working set, the one families buy by the handful for the boys. A machine spun string is entirely kosher and it costs a fraction of what hand spun does, which matters a great deal when there are four or five begadim in the house and every one of them needs retying two or three times a year. Fifty centimeters ties comfortably onto a tallis katan and can be used on a tallis gadol as well.

Keep a few packets in the drawer. Between a cheder boy catching a corner on a fence and the ordinary wear that finishes off a set by the middle of the winter, the ability to sit down and retie the same evening is worth far more than what a packet of these actually costs.
