Handmade Crochet Gartel, Black With Strings and Velvet Bag, Sizes 13 to 36

Crocheted by hand in black, finished with strings at both ends, and delivered in its own velvet bag. The crochet gives a textured, slightly open surface quite different from the smooth face of a woven silk gartel, and the bag it arrives in means it can be handed over as a gift without anything further being done to it.

Six widths are made and the number is literal: size 13 is built from thirteen strings across, and the range continues through 15, 18, 22, 26 and 36. The narrower sizes are the everyday ones. Size 26 and size 36 make a genuinely broad band, which is what a man wants when the gartel is meant to be seen over a Shabbos kapoteh rather than simply worn. There is no length choice, so the width is the decision.
