Handmade Knitted Gartel with Border, White Sizes 18 and 22, Velvet Bag

Hand knitted in white with a finished border along both edges, strings at the ends, and its own velvet bag. It is the same construction as the black knitted gartel with the border, made in the colour that comes out for the days it is actually needed.

Size 18 and size 22 are made, the numbers being the count of strings across the width. Twenty two is the broader and more formal of the two; eighteen is still a full dress width and sits a little lighter. Both are appropriate for a chosson under the chuppah, for Yom Kippur over a kittel, and for the seder night, which between them account for nearly every time a white gartel leaves the drawer.

Since it is worn rarely, a white gartel is judged on how it looks each time rather than on how it survives daily use, and the worked border is the detail that carries it. It arrives ready to give, which is worth knowing if it is being bought as part of a chosson set alongside a kittel or a tallis bag.
