Description
The widest cut in the #101 gefluchten line: a braided band measuring 6.25 by 38 inches. At that width it covers a serious span of the collar, and the braid pattern has room to show its full repeat instead of being cropped down to a narrow strip the way it is on a 3.5 or 4.5 inch band.
Width is the whole point of this listing. A 6.25 inch atarah wants a full-size heavy wool tallis underneath it — on a lightweight or smaller tallis it will overpower the garment and hang wrong at the shoulders. On a large tallis it does the opposite, filling the collar so the tallis reads as complete rather than as a plain sheet with a stripe at the top. Men who daven in a large tallis are usually the ones reaching for this one.
It comes in the single size, so there is nothing to select. Check the width of the atarah currently sewn onto your tallis before ordering; if it is under five inches, this will be a visible step up rather than a like-for-like replacement.
