Small Square Swirl Sterling Silver Atarah, 3 to 7 Rows

The lighter of the two square-link silver bands. Each link is a small square worked with a swirl, and because the squares are smaller they repeat more often along the row, giving a finer, denser pattern than the big square version of the same design. Sterling silver, and it sits on the collar of a tallis with the substance of metal but without the heft of the broad-link band.

Rows set the width: three, four, five, six or seven. A three-row band of small squares is genuinely delicate and works on a tallis where a heavy atarah would look out of place. Seven rows builds real width while keeping the fine scale of the links, which is why some men prefer this over the big square even at the widest setting — you get the presence without the chunkiness. Five rows is the middle ground and the most requested.
