Gefluchten Atarah Style #501, 5.5 x 38 Inch Band

Pattern #501 in the gefluchten family, cut at 5.5 by 38 inches. The braid runs the length of the band, and at 5.5 inches it sits in the middle of the range — wide enough to be the first thing seen on the tallis, narrow enough that it does not dominate the shoulders. It is stitched onto the collar, replacing whatever plain band came with the tallis when it was bought.

One size, one decision: is your tallis ready for it. Most wool talleisim arrive from the manufacturer with a modest woven atarah, and swapping that for a gefluchten band is the single change that makes the largest visible difference to how a tallis looks. Thirty-eight inches is the standard collar length, so it goes onto the ordinary run of full-size talleisim without alteration.
