Description
Design 1805BB gives the lulav a full 53.5 by 7.5 inches of case. The proportions are what matter on a lulav holder — long enough that the top of the lulav is inside and covered, wide enough that the hadassim are not compressed against the sides for a whole week.
The aluminum lining is offered as a yes-or-no option at ordering. Lined, the case is doing something for the lulav all week rather than just carrying it, keeping the set from drying out before Hoshana Rabbah. Unlined, it is the same case with a simpler interior. Buyers who bind an expensive lulav generally take the lining; buyers replacing a case for a bochur often do not.
It also matters that a case stands up on its own. Leaning a bare lulav in a corner of the sukkah is how aravos get broken, and a case that can be stood by the door or laid on a shelf without collapsing keeps the set out of harm's way between davenings.
