A chosson's kittel gets more use than almost anything else he is given. Design 2107 is a lightweight one with shoulder pads and a bekishe line, plain, without lace on it — the version families buy when the kittel is being bought once and expected to last.

Take the chest size, 34 through 48, and the length, small through X-large, as two separate decisions. A young man of 36 or 38 will fill out over the years, and the sizing here is fine enough that he can be fitted properly now instead of being put into something deliberately oversized in the hope he grows into it. Poly cotton and linen are both cut across every size in the range.

It goes on under the chuppah first, then on Yom Kippur, then at the seder, then on Hoshana Rabbah — four different rooms and four different reasons, in the same garment. That is why the cut matters more here than the trim does.
