Neiros Shabbos Square Lucite Stand, 5x8.5 #350

The squared-off version of the candle-lighting stand: design #350 measures 5 by 8.5 inches, worked in high-quality lucite with a gold or silver finish. The straighter geometry gives it a firmer footprint on the table than a rounded piece has, and at this size it holds its place beside a set of leichter without taking over the surface.

Built into it are a tzedakah slot and a dedicated stand for the matchbox. Both are small features and both solve a real Friday-afternoon problem — the coin that has to be found and the matches that were somewhere last week. Gold or silver is the only other decision, and it should follow the leichter rather than the tablecloth.

Lucite is a sensible material for a spot that sees wax, dripped oil and heat from a nearby flame; it wipes down and does not tarnish where a metal stand would want attention. Families buy this for a daughter starting to light her own candles, and it is one of the more thoughtful things to bring a kallah setting up a first home.
