Description
The columns on design 163 are spiralled rather than straight, twisting up each side of the face before the canopy closes across the top. The swirl is carried in the stitching itself, so the turn of each column is shaded and the raised thread gives it roundness. On velvet it reads as carved rather than drawn.
Four sizes are cut from the same design. The 8.5x9.5 tefillin bag is the compact one, made without stones, for a single pair. The 10x10.5 bar mitzvah tefillin size is what most boys get. The 14x14 large talis bag suits a standard tallis, and the 16x16 extra large gives room to spare. Buying the tefillin size and a talis size together means a bochur is set from his bar mitzvah through his own tallis after his chasuna.
Bencher covers are made in design 163 as well, so the swirl columns can carry over to the table without hunting for something that almost matches.
