Description
Grey antique leather with a fur trim, made up as a Kaftor for Kallahs machzorim set. This is the top of the collection and it does not pretend otherwise. The grey is cool and deep, the fur is soft against it, and the combination is the one a chosson chooses when he has decided this is the gift and the rest of the list can be modest.
Under the finish it is still a working set of machzorim for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur — held for the length of both days, carried to shul and back, opened and closed hundreds of times over the years. Leather and fur are both chosen for that, not just for how they look on the day it is given.
Give it shelf room rather than wedging it between seforim; fur trim wants a little clearance to keep its loft. Handled that way, a set like this is still the nicest thing in the house on Yom Kippur a decade from now.
