Description
The gold embroidery on design 270 arches over the front of the black velvet like a gateway, rising from both sides and meeting at the top of the panel. Below the arch the velvet is left clear, so the shape of the design is what you read first rather than the density of the stitching.
It comes in the bar mitzvah bag at 10.5 by 10 inches, the large talis bag at 14 by 14 and the extra large at 16 by 16. The arch keeps its proportions across all three, which is not true of every pattern that gets scaled. If the bag is for a boy, the smallest size is the tefillin size; if it is for a man who has recently started wearing a tallis, start at 14 by 14.
The clear space beneath the arch is where a name is usually placed, so this one suits a bag being given as a presentation gift.
