Description
Design 535 sets black velvet next to black faux leather across the face. The two are blocked rather than mixed, and the practical logic is easy to see: the leather panel takes the part of the bag that gets handled most, and it wipes down, while the velvet keeps the traditional look on the rest of the front.
The bag is cut at 10.5 by 10 inches for bar mitzvah, 14 by 14 as a large talis bag and 16 by 16 extra large. This is a sensible design for a bochur who carries his bag in a knapsack every day — velvet alone shows wear along the edges after a year or two, and the leather panelling here is placed where that wear happens.
It is also a good choice for anyone who travels with his tefillin regularly, since a bag that cleans up is worth more on the road than one that does not.
