Description
Design 585 frames a black velvet centre with black faux leather all the way round. The leather border gives the face structure, and a structured face is a genuinely useful thing: the bag keeps its shape sitting in a car, packed in a suitcase or standing on a shelf, rather than collapsing around whatever is inside it.
Sizes are 10.5 by 10 inches for bar mitzvah, 14 by 14 as a large talis bag and 16 by 16 extra large. The 16-inch benefits most from the framing, since that is the size that tends to slump when it is made entirely of velvet. For a boy with a single pair of tefillin, the smallest size is correct and the leather edge will outlast the years he carries it.
