Black Faux Leather and Crushed Velvet Tallis & Tefillin Bag #586

Design 586 reverses 585: faux leather runs across the body of the bag with a crushed velvet centre set into it, and everything stays black. Instead of leather framing velvet, velvet is the inset and leather carries the field, which changes the balance of the face without changing the palette at all.

It is made in the bar mitzvah cut at 10.5 by 10 inches, the large talis bag at 14 by 14 and the extra large at 16 by 16. Between 585 and 586 the practical difference is how much leather surface you want on the outside — more leather means less to keep clean, and the crushed velvet centre still gives the bag the traditional face a man expects to see.

Both are worth handling side by side if you can; they photograph almost identically and feel quite different.
