Description
Design 590 pieces together two weights of black velvet, one smooth and one crushed. There is no colour difference between them at all — the depth comes entirely from how the two naps take light, one holding it evenly and the other breaking it up. Move the bag and the panels separate; hold it still and they nearly merge.
The three sizes are 10.5 by 10 inches for bar mitzvah, 14 by 14 for a large talis bag and 16 by 16 for the extra large. This is an unembroidered bag, so there is nothing on it to snag or fray, which makes it a practical choice for a bochur. It is also the sort of bag a man buys when he wants something that will not look dated in fifteen years.
The absence of thread also means it stays even in tone as it ages, rather than the embroidery outlasting the ground.
