Description
Black velvet and faux leather panels are arranged in a narrow, upright layout on design 595. The panels run tall rather than wide, so the bag reads as slimmer than it measures, and the leather sections sit where the bag is gripped and carried.
It is made in all three Malchut bag sizes: 10.5 by 10 inches for bar mitzvah, 14 by 14 as a large talis bag and 16 by 16 extra large. The upright panelling holds together particularly well at 14 by 14, where the proportions of the bag suit a vertical layout. For tefillin alone the small size is right, and the leather panels mean it will survive a knapsack.
It is a design worth comparing against 585 and 635, which use the same two materials to different ends.
