Description
A gold-embroidered black velvet bag, listed as Malchut design 915. The thread is worked across the face in a pattern with clear symmetry, and on velvet that symmetry is what keeps the bag looking neat even after it has been carried, set down and picked up several thousand times.
It is sized 10.5 by 10 for bar mitzvah or 14 by 14 and 16 by 16 for a talis. The bar mitzvah bag fits a boy's tallis with his tefillin beside it. The 14 by 14 is the size to order once he owns a full wool tallis, and it is what most men buy outright. The 16 by 16 gives space for a large tallis and anything else that travels along.
If the bag is going to a bochur leaving for mesivta, the larger size is the practical order. A bag that has to hold a tallis, tefillin and sometimes a siddur on a bus is better a little roomy than exactly right.
