Velvet Tallis & Tefillin Bag, Canopy Arch Design #165, Black or Navy

Design #165 embroiders a canopy arch onto velvet — a rounded arch form rising across the face of the bag, the kind of shape that borrows from the aron kodesh. It is a formal motif and it is worked large enough to be the single thing you see on the bag, with no secondary border competing with it.

There are three choices to make. The velvet comes black or navy; the embroidery comes silver or gold; and the bag is made in four sizes — a single tefillin bag at 8.5 x 9.5 without stones, a bar mitzvah bag at 10 x 10.5, a large talis bag at 14 x 14 and an extra large at 16 x 16. Navy with silver reads cooler and lighter, black with gold is the traditional pairing, and the size is decided by whether the bag is carrying tefillin alone or a full tallis with them.

The #165 arch is also made up as a bencher cover, which is the piece most families add to it when they are buying for a chosson.
