Description
Crystal-set embroidery on a linen ground, in Malchut's 856 design. The crystals do most of the work on this one — against linen there is no shine anywhere else on the face, so each stone reads individually rather than blending into a general sparkle the way it would on brocade. The embroidery itself is fine rather than heavy, which keeps the neutral fabric visible around it.
Three sizes are offered: 19.5 by 23.5, 15.5 by 19.5 and 14.5 by 17.5. Most families take the medium for weekly use. The large is the one to order if you host, if the challos are shaped rather than braided flat, or if the cover has to clear a board underneath.
A challah board is produced in the matching 856 design, and Malchut also cuts the number as a tallis and tefillin bag. The board is the more natural companion here — a light linen cover on a board cut to the same design is a considered setup rather than two pieces that happen to share a table.
