Velvet Tallis & Tefillin Bag, Dome-Shape Corner Embroidery #196

Design #196 works its embroidery into the corner of the bag in a dome shape — a rounded form anchored at the corner rather than centred on the face. Corner designs leave most of the velvet open, so the bag reads as a velvet bag first and an embroidered one second, and the dome gives the corner a soft top edge instead of a hard point.

Three sizes are cut. The single tefillin bag is 8 x 9, supplied without stones, and is the size to take if the tefillin are being kept apart from the tallis. The large talis bag at 14 x 14 is the standard adult size and holds a full tallis with tefillin together. The extra large at 16 x 16 is for a heavier or wider tallis that you would rather not fold down tight.

There is no bar mitzvah size in this design, so for a bochur it is worth looking at the numbers that run a 10 x 10.5 cut instead.
