Description
Custom #1034 carries a tallis and tefillin in one bag, and it comes from the part of Malchut's line where the embroidery is worked to a higher grade than the standard catalogue numbers. The design is meant to be handled — the stitching is set to survive a bag that gets opened, closed and carried twice a day rather than one that sits on a shelf.
Three sizes are available. The 10.5 x 10 bar mitzvah bag is proportioned for a boy. The 14 x 14 large talis bag is the adult standard and holds a tallis with tefillin comfortably. The roomy 16 x 16 extra large is the one to take if the tallis is heavy wool, or if a siddur and a small sefer travel along with everything else.
When in doubt between the 14 x 14 and the 16 x 16, the larger size is the one people regret less. Nobody has ever complained that his tallis went into the bag too easily.
