Custom #1051 sits at the top of Malchut's range. The distinction at this level is craft rather than quantity — the embroidery is worked more tightly, the placement is exact, and the finish holds up to being examined in the hand. It is the tier bought when the bag is meant to be the good one for the rest of a man's life.
Three sizes are produced: bar mitzvah 10.5 x 10, large talis bag 14 x 14 and extra large 16 x 16. The bar mitzvah size fits a bochur carrying tefillin. The 14 x 14 is the adult standard and takes a full tallis with tefillin. The 16 x 16 is the size for a heavy wool tallis or for a man who carries more than the minimum to shul.
When this is bought for a bar mitzvah it is generally a joint present from a family rather than a single gift, which is worth knowing if you are the one organising it.
