Description
Crocodile-grain black leather gives #1060 a texture that plain hide cannot match; the pattern in the leather does half the work before the embroidery starts. That version is finished with grey leather for contrast. The alternative pairs plain black leather with black-and-white fur, a busier and more striking treatment where the fur breaks up the black instead of a second leather doing it. Both versions are built on the same body, so the difference is entirely in the face.
Sizes run bar mitzvah at 10.5" x 10", large talis at 14" x 14", and extra large at 16" x 16". A bochur receiving tefillin takes the first; a man with a standard woolen tallis takes the second; the third is for a large tallis, or for anyone who prefers a bag with room to spare rather than one packed tight.
Crocodile grain is not for everyone, but for a man who wants his bag recognisable on a shtender from across the beis medrash without adding colour to it, this is the one to look at.
