Description
#1067 comes from the upper end of Malchut's custom range, where the body is built from their heavier materials and the embroidery is worked more fully across the front. The extra cost buys density of stitching and a firmer bag that holds its shape rather than slumping when it is set down. Everything on it is embroidered rather than printed, so nothing rubs off at the corners where the bag takes the most handling.
Three cuts are made. The bar mitzvah bag measures 10.5" x 10" and is the size given with a first pair of tefillin. The large talis bag at 14" x 14" fits a normal woolen tallis comfortably. The extra large at 16" x 16" is for a big tallis, and for men who fold loosely and do not want to fight the zipper.
If this is a gift, the size is the decision to get right. A bochur will use the bar mitzvah bag for years, but a man who already owns a full tallis needs one of the two larger cuts, and the 16" x 16" is rarely regretted.
