Description
Design 1465 comes from the upper part of Malchut's embroidered range, where the body is heavier and the thread work is fuller. There is no fur and no velvet on it; the design is carried entirely by the embroidery, which means the stitching has to be right, and on this number it is. The bag stands square when set down and keeps its corners rather than rounding off after a few years.
Sizes are 10.5" x 10" for bar mitzvah, 14" x 14" for a large talis bag, and 16" x 16" for extra large, and the design was cut to suit any tallis across that range. A bochur with a first pair of tefillin takes the smallest. A man with a woolen tallis takes the 14" x 14", or the 16" x 16" if the tallis is a heavy one.
An embroidery-only bag at this level is the traditional pick for a man who wants the best construction available without any of the fur and velvet treatments that have become common. It looks the same in twenty years as it does now.
