Embroidery is applied to #3011 on request, which is a plainer way of saying that the bag is made up after you order it rather than pulled from a run. What that gets you is a worked face proportioned to the panel size you chose, rather than one pattern stretched across three different bags.
The panels are 10.5 by 10 inches for a bar mitzvah bag, 14 by 14 for a large talis bag, and 16 by 16 for the extra large. The 14 by 14 is where most adult orders land. The 16 by 16 is worth the step if the tallis is a heavy wool one, or if he keeps a siddur and a gartel bag in with the tallis and tefillin.
Order with time in hand. A made-up bag cannot be resized afterwards, and the size is the one decision here that cannot be undone.
