Three cuts are available: bar mitzvah at 10.5 by 10 inches, large talis at 14 by 14, extra large at 16 by 16. The middle size handles the majority of tallisos folded to quarters with the tefillin alongside. Move up to the 16 by 16 if the tallis is heavy wool or if he prefers a loose fold.

Because the embroidery is worked after the size is set, the layout suits whichever panel you order. That is the practical advantage of ordering rather than buying off a rack, and it is most visible on the extra large, which carries the design properly instead of looking blown up.
