Description
Two very different treatments live under #5024. The first is patterned leather with zebra fur — a strong, high-contrast panel that nobody chooses by accident. The second is straight black leather with black fur, which is about as conservative as this range gets. The construction underneath is identical; what changes is whether the bag announces itself.
Size is chosen from the three Malchut builds: the 10.5 by 10 inch bar mitzvah bag, the 14 by 14 large talis bag, or the 16 by 16 extra large. A boy who has just started laying tefillin does not need more than the smallest. Once a full tallis travels every morning, the 14 by 14 is the size that works, and the extra large is there for heavier wool and larger tefillin.
If you are choosing between the two finishes for a gift, consider where the bag will be carried. The zebra reads well on a young man at a bar mitzvah; the black-on-black is the one a rov or a rebbi will actually use.
