Velvet Tallis & Tefillin Bag, Embroidered Border (Design #V1076)

#V1076 frames itself. The embroidery runs as a border around the edge of the face, leaving the velvet open in the middle, which is the reverse of how most bags in the collection are laid out. The effect is a bag that looks finished rather than decorated — the thread defines the shape instead of filling it.

Made to order in the standard three: bar mitzvah at 10.5 x 10, large talis at 14 x 14, extra large at 16 x 16. A border design changes character between the sizes more than a centred one does, since the frame gets proportionally lighter as the bag grows. On the 16 x 16 the open velvet in the centre becomes the dominant feature.

An open centre also means the pile takes the wear rather than the thread, which is the practical argument for a border design on a bag that gets carried every day.
