From the V1500 run, #V1520 pairs Malchut's velvet with restrained embroidery — enough thread to give the face a design, not so much that the pile disappears underneath it. The balance between worked and open velvet is what this number is really about, and it is a common choice for men who find the fully covered bags too much.
The three cuts are 10.5 x 10, 14 x 14 and 16 x 16: bar mitzvah, large talis, extra large. A bochur needs the first, most adults the second, and the third exists for full wool talleisim and for bags that carry a siddur or a machzor alongside. Nothing about the design changes between them.
Restrained velvet bags tend to be the ones still in use twenty years on, because there is nothing on the face to tire of.
