Description
Black crushed velvet is the ground on #V2001, and it behaves differently from flat velvet — the pile is broken, so the surface catches light in patches instead of evenly. Over it the embroidery runs in either gold thread or silver. Gold reads warm and traditional against the black; silver is cooler and sharper, and it picks up the crushed texture more than gold does.
Both thread choices come at 10.5 x 10 for the bar mitzvah bag, 14 x 14 for the large talis bag and 16 x 16 for the extra large. Crushed velvet forgives handling better than flat pile, which makes any of the three sizes reasonable for daily use rather than Shabbos only.
Between the crushed ground and the metallic thread, this is one of the more striking faces in the velvet collection. It is a frequent choice for a chosson.
