Four Corner Quilted Velvet Tallis & Tefillin Bag #480

Quilted velvet gives this bag its surface. On #480 the quilting covers the body of the bag in a regular pattern and four corner embroidery finishes it, so the texture reads first and the stitching second. Quilted velvet also has a practical advantage: the padding between the stitch lines gives a little cushioning around what is inside.

Four sizes are made — the tefillin bag at 8.5" x 9.5" without stones, the bar mitzvah bag at 10" x 10.5", the large talis bag at 14" x 14" and the extra large at 16" x 16". The two smaller sizes are for tefillin alone; the larger two take a tallis as well.

Quilting hides handling marks better than flat velvet, which matters on a bag that lives in a shul cubby or gets carried to a shiur every night. For a bochur in mesivta this is usually the more forgiving choice.
